Ocean Discovery Day 2012

NOAA Fisheries, Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary and Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network (TMMSN) hosted the fifth annual Ocean Discovery day on Saturday, March 24, 2012. Ocean Discovery Day is an opportunity for the public to visit the NOAA laboratory in Galveston and learn a bit about what we do. There are informational exhibits, hands on activities, facility tours and much more.

Every year thousands tour the NOAA facility in Galveston. Some visitors are future marine biologists and scientists and some are just in it for the fun, but all love the ocean and leave learning something new!

Visitors were also able to talk one-on-one to NOAA scientists at the lab - it's a great opportunity for the public to ask questions and speak directly with our scientists.

The FREE family event featured creative hands-on activities, crafts for the kids, cool science tools, a chance to meet some local sea turtles, explore coral reefs, a visit from Sanctuary Sam and the opportunity to learn how to save dolphins.
