Louisiana Coastal Area Restoration Plan

Fishery Ecology Branch

Wetland Restoration in Louisiana

John Foret and Joy Merino

An initiative led by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources to develop and request congressional funds for an “Everglades-scale” restoration plan for Louisiana.  The plan focuses on large-scale restoration utilizing river water and sediments to freshen and build wetlands across coastal Louisiana.  Three types of projects are considered with a focus on Near-Term projects, which can be constructed in the next 5- 10 years.  Demonstration projects and Long-Term projects in need of extensive funds, time or support are also identified.
